Location

Blackwater Springs is located in the Seminole State Forest, about 2 miles west of Cassia and 12 miles east of Eustis.

Description

Blackwater Springs has seven spring pools. The largest spring discharges into an elongated pool that measures 95 feet long and 80 feet wide, with an average depth of 12 feet. North of the largest spring pool is a smaller, oval pool 35 feet long, 20 feet wide, and about a foot deep. All spring pools are filled with detritus and white, sulfur-reducing bacteria. There is a hydrogen sulfide odor. The main spring run is shallow and about 30 feet wide. It flows 250 feet west into Blackwater Creek. All of the additional runs flow southwest to join the main spring run. Publicly-owned, swampy lowland forest surrounds these springs.

Utilization

The spring is on public property, but the spring and the area around it are undeveloped and access may be difficult.
