Lake County Stormwater completes Dead River pond
The Stormwater Section of the Lake County Department of Public Works completed this month the Dead River stormwater pond, located on Dead River Road in the Lake Harris Basin.
The 7-acre stormwater pond redirects runoff that previously went directly into the Dead River. The pond treats a 52-acre drainage basin. The project was in response to the phosphorous total maximum daily loads (TMDL) for Lake Harris.
In addition to improving the area's stormwater quality, the Dead River stormwater pond is an opportunity to preserve and conserve open land near Lake Harris. Since its completion, staff says the native vegetation planted along the pond is attracting new wildlife to the property.
