Thousands being spent to clear fallen trees from Dora Canal

LAKE COUNTY — One of the top tourist attractions in Lake County has become hazardous for people to visit. The Dora Canal is one of central Florida’s most picturesque places, but a private crew has been spending major time clearing fallen trees and debris from the water.

“I never expected that we would have that much wood laying on the bottom of the Dora Canal,” said Mike Perry of the Lake County Water Authority. “I’m extremely surprised and pleased that it’s coming out."

There’s no way to know just how many tons of trees are in the canal, but officials said it has been piling up for decades and tearing up boat propellers.
