New specialty license plate supports St. Johns River Alliance

Purchase a new plate by Oct. 31st and get a $25 rebate

Anyone who enjoys the St. Johns River, or any of its connecting waterways, can show support by obtaining a St. Johns River license plate. The plates can be bought at any County Tax Collector’s office.

“The St. Johns River is a big draw for residents and visitors to the area because of the county’s two blueway runs that are connected to river, as well as the many waterway events that boost the local economy,” said Lake County Commissioner Welton G. Cadwell. “By supporting the river through a license plate purchase, residents are ensuring that the river is preserved, and that it continues to be a viable economic stimulator in the region.”

The state of Florida charges an additional $25 to purchase the specialty license plate, which helps fund restoration, ecotourism initiatives and community grants that preserve the river’s history, culture and ecology. The St. Johns River Alliance, which receives the fee, will rebate the $25 through Oct. 31 as an incentive to help bring awareness to the river’s significance in the area’s ecosystems.

In order to receive the rebate, residents will need to send the Alliance a copy of their receipt showing the purchase of a new St. Johns River license plate. License plate renewals are not eligible for the rebate.

“It’s a great way to celebrate the St. Johns River,” said Cyndi Stevenson, a St. Johns County Commissioner, who also chairs the Alliance. “The St. Johns is one of Florida’s most important ecosystems and has an impact on millions of residents.”

The St. Johns River Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and receipts may be mailed to the Alliance at 2029 N. Third St., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
