TAVARES – Lake County public safety agencies, in conjunction with various public and private partners, are together hosting the 4th Annual Water Safety Day in six locations.
The events will all be held on Saturday, May 16 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will offer free swimming lessons for children, CPR and ‘Reach or Throw, But Don’t Go’ demonstrations, life safety device education, mock drowning exercises, a water safety movie by Safer 3, swimming lesson registrations, open swimming, tips for keeping kids safe around pools at home and safety vendors and exhibits.
Each day in the U.S., 10 people die from drowning and two of these are children under the age of 14, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
“Florida has the highest drowning rate in the nation for children under 14, which is why hosting these educational family events in our county year after year is so important,” said Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks.
