Keep Lake Beautiful event to be held in Umatilla
UMATILLA — Keep Lake Beautiful, in partnership with the city of Umatilla, is hosting a community cleanup event on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. – noon, in the vacant lot at the First Baptist Church of Umatilla, 59 N. Trowell Ave., with a second drop-off location at Umatilla Southside Baseball Field, 17107 Ball Park Road.
During the event, residents are encouraged to clean up their homes and yards and bring excess household trash to either of the locations for disposal. In addition, at the Southside Baseball Field, Lake County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will be available for residents to dispose of items such as lawn and gardening materials, pool chemicals, paint products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs and small propane tanks.
Those wishing to volunteer at the event to help clean up roads and shorelines, and to help unload trash items at the drop-off locations, must be older than 16 or accompanied by an adult. Keep Lake Beautiful and its sponsors will provide gloves, safety vests, trash bags and water for all volunteers. Participants should bring their own sunscreen and insect repellent, and should wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
The mission of Keep Lake Beautiful is “To beautify Lake County by engaging our community.” Last year, Lake County became an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit agency that focuses on building and maintaining vibrant communities. Since its launch, Keep Lake Beautiful has hosted or partnered on nearly a dozen projects including community and waterway cleanups, roadside litter pickups, neighborhood and school beautification events, tree plantings and household hazardous waste drop-offs.
