Keep Lake Beautiful celebrates 1-year anniversary with community cleanup in Sorrento
SORRENTO— Keep Lake Beautiful (KLB), whose mission is to beautify Lake County by engaging the community, will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a community cleanup event on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. – noon at the East Lake Community Park, located at 24809 Wallick Road, Sorrento.
Residents are encouraged to clean their homes and yards, and bring excess trash, tires, and bulk items for proper disposal. Lake County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will be onsite to accept household hazardous waste, paint, fuel, and more.
“We had an amazing outpouring of community support during the KLB event in the East Lake area last year, and we are hoping to surpass the number of volunteers and amount of litter collected this year,” said Brian Sheahan, Lake County Community Safety & Compliance Director.
KLB and its sponsors, WCA Waste Corporation and the Florida Department of Health in Lake County, will provide gloves, safety vests, trash bags and water. Volunteers are asked to wear proper attire, and bring sunscreen and insect repellent. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, or must be accompanied by an adult.
Last year, Lake County became an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit agency that focuses on building and maintaining vibrant communities. Since its launch, Keep Lake Beautiful has hosted or partnered on a dozen projects including community and waterway cleanups, roadside litter pickups, neighborhood and school beautification events, tree plantings and household hazardous waste drop-offs.
