Tavares catches grease gremlin dumping oil in city sewer

TAVARES – It’s not exactly a capital crime, but City of Tavares officials say someone had been dumping large quantities of cooking oil into their sewer system and gumming up the works.

Employees of the city’s Wastewater Department said several months ago, they noticed large quantities of grease in the system and tested it, and it turned out to be cooking oil. They pinpointed the location as a manhole cover in an alley behind South Ridge Industrial Shops on County Road 561 and on Sept. 25 set up a camera on a tree nearby.
