LAKE COUNTY (Aug. 2, 2024) – Lake County Emergency Management has released new details to help residents preparing for the anticipated storm. Please see below.

County Operations

• The Emergency Operations Center is currently activated to a Level 3 and expects to shift to a Level 2 activation tomorrow at 7 a.m. Staff is monitoring the storm and working with their local, state, and weather partners to prepare for any impact.
• The storm is predicted to primarily be a rain event. The County encourages residents to prepare their properties and families for heavy rain in the coming days.
• No office closures or service suspensions are expected at this time.
• A state and local emergency declaration has been issued for Lake County.

Citizens Information Line

The County’s Citizens Information Line (CIL) will open today, Aug. 2, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The CIL will be open daily thereafter from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Citizens who need information are encouraged to call the line at 352-253-9999 for assistance. 9-1-1 should only be used to request emergency aid.

Sandbags

Seven sandbag locations will open today (08/02) from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Starting tomorrow, the sites will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or until weather conditions become unsafe. Sand and bags will be available on site - residents should bring their own shovels and will need to fill their own bags.

Residents who need assistance filling bags can visit one of the three locations marked with asterisks (**). Those locations will have inmates on-site to prepare sandbags for those who need help.
